History

Founded in 1982, the Collegedale Spanish-American SDA (SuCasa) church, is the first Spanish SDA church in the state of Tennessee and is also the first Spanish church to be inside the campus of an Adventist university. Our church vision has been to generate a movement where ALL members can contribute and are motivated by their personal relationship with God. Since it was first built, part of our mission has been to help students find a home away from home and to train future ministers going to Spanish-speaking countries or churches in the United States.

This project could not have been possible without the help of visionary donors who understood the need to reach the Hispanic community in Tennessee and beyond. As a result, eight other Hispanic churches have been planted in the area. And most recently we were very instrumental in the planting of a Chinese mission group that worshiped in our Camp Road satellite campus.

Although we have been mission focused in planting churches and developing leaders, we have continued to grow and have been over capacity in our current church for decades. We simply can no longer fit or effectively minister inside our very small 140 seat church and continue our mission with the increasing number of Hispanic students at Southern Adventist University or in our community. SAU is now the only higher learning institution in the state of Tennessee designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), with an annual enrollment of at least 27% Hispanic students.

Ensuring that we continue to spread the gospel effectively was the main reason to build a medium sized 425 seat church and multipurpose facility. Our mission remains to continue with His work locally and beyond. Our new facility will provide more space to effectively minister and allow us to have more services such as a non-profit daycare, conference activities, counseling services, and much more.
